The best part about parties is definitely the food. No matter the occasion, this dip would be a welcome addition to any party table spread! Everyone who tried this dip went back for seconds.. and thirds! It can even be made ahead then popped into the oven right before serving to make entertaining a breeze. This jalapeno popper dip is really so easy, and delivers the same flavor as the classic version everyone knows and loves!

What are the ingredients needed in this dip?

The ingredients required are simple, everyday things:

  • cream cheese - makes for a smooth, creamy dip and adds the flavor so reminiscent of jalapeno poppers
  • bacon - optional, but a great addition for additional flavor
  • jalapenos - I de-seed mine to make a mild version, but you can leave some seeds if you like the kick
  • cheddar cheese - use a sharp cheddar for best results
  • sour cream - to add a bit of tang while making the dip a bit smoother
  • garlic powder - just a sprinkle to ramp up the flavor
  • breadcrumbs - adds a crunchy layer to the top of the dip, or try panko!
  • melted butter - to help crisp the breadcrumbs

how to make jalapeno popper dip:

step one: mix the cream cheese, half the cheddar cheese, sour cream, jalapeno, bacon, garlic powder until everything is mixed well

step two: spread into the bottom of an oven safe dish, then top with remaining cheddar cheese

step three: mix the breadcrumbs and butter, the evenly sprinkle over top of the dip

step four: bake until bubbly, about 20 minutes, and enjoy with chips, veggies, or crackers

Do I need to use fresh jalapenos?

I like the crunch that fresh jalapenos give to the dip, but if you prefer to use a can of diced green chilies, or some pickled jalapenos you can absolutely substitute those. The dip will be a bit spicier this way so taste and adjust the amount of pepper added carefully!

What to serve with this dip?

I personally love chips and dip, so that is my go-to! Carrot sticks, celery sticks, and crackers are all great options as well to dip in this jalapeno popper dip.

Tips for the best jalapeno popper dip:

  • if using fresh jalapenos, wear gloves when preparing the peppers - I skipped this one time before I knew better and my fingers burned for hours!
  • if using fresh jalapenos dice them small
  • pre-cook the bacon to make assembly super fast, or use bacon bits in a pinch
  • sour cream can be replaced with plain greek yogurt
  • serve while warm, when it cools down too much it becomes harder to "dip" and chips may get broken (but it still tastes good!)
  • add a sour cream and onion vibe to this dip by adding some minced green onions either into the dip or on top after baking
  • for a mild dip everyone can enjoy completely remove all seeds from the jalapenos, for a spicier dip leave some
  • make sure the dip is bubbling before removed from the oven, but it should cool slightly before digging in to prevent any burnt tongue mishaps
