Sheet pan dishes have become some of my favorites in the kitchen. They’re a quick and easy way to assemble dinner for your family without all the dishes and all the hassle. Having just a few dishes to clean up and dinner ready in under 30 minutes might sound like a dream, but this recipe makes that a dream come true! This sheet pan sausage and veggies recipe is kid-approved, picky eater friendly, and perfect for busy families who are tight on time.
This sausage sheet pan dinner recipe calls for a lot of ingredients, but many of them can be prepped ahead of time for a quick throw-together and cook recipe:
step one: In a large bowl, toss the mini potatoes, carrots, sweet potato, pepper, broccoli, and cauliflower with the olive oil, Italian seasoning, oregano, mustard powder, smoked paprika, salt, and pepper until everything is fully coated
step two: Transfer mixture to a foil-lined baking sheet, spread into a single layer
step three : Bake at 425 F for 10 minutes, then stir the veggies and add the sausage. Cook an additional 15 minutes, or until the vegetables are tender and the sausage is cooked through (this will vary depending on the size of the sausage)
This one pan sausage and veggies recipe can be changed every time! You can use onions, mushrooms, Brussels sprouts, green beans, and any other type of vegetable that you want. This is what makes sheet pan sausage recipes like this the best!
Using a meat thermometer is the best way to check the internal temperature in the oven. As long as the meat reading is 165 degrees, the sausage should be cooked and safe to eat.
Yes, you can overcook sausage, it will be dry and chewy so be sure to watch it closely towards the end of the cooking time.
If you are worried about the sausage drying out, you could give it a nice sear before cooking it. This has been shown to be a great way to retain moisture in meats; however I find with sausage it is very forgiving due to the high amount of fat in the meat.
If you want to add your favorite sauce to this easy weeknight meal, go for it! It’s a simple way to change the flavor and taste of the dish with minimal time and effort. You can use anything from teriyaki sauce to a hot and spicy sauce! Just be sure to set aside some of this one-pan dinner recipe in a bowl before adding sauce so those who don’t want sauce can enjoy it just like it is.
You can add fresh chopped parsely, basil or cilantro to the top of this sheet pan dinner to add a burst of fresh flavor and taste. Chopped scallions are another great idea to enhance the flavor.
